Know what each measurement is describing
Throughput describes how much data is transferred over time. Latency concerns delay, jitter concerns variation in delay, and packet loss concerns data that does not arrive as expected. They describe different aspects of a connection, so one strong result does not make the others irrelevant.
These are diagnostic terms, not a set of universal pass marks for every service. A player’s buffering behaviour, stream format and route to the source also matter. Avoid treating one online result as a guarantee of playback quality.
Record conditions rather than only the score
Include the device, network type, location, test tool and time. Note whether the household was downloading, making calls or streaming on another screen. The same connection can behave differently when idle and when busy.
If a tool provides separate results under load, read its explanation before comparing them. Do not mix a measurement from one device with a playback observation from another without saying so. Context keeps the report interpretable.

Compare a repeatable change
When supported, compare the same device on a wired route and its normal Wi-Fi connection, or repeat at a different time. Keep the test tool and authorised programme consistent. A single changed factor is easier to evaluate than a collection of simultaneous resets.
Check whether the viewing fault occurs at the same time as the measured change. A poor result can suggest where to investigate, but it does not automatically identify the streaming provider, router or broadband operator as the sole cause.
Share enough evidence for a next step
Give support a short table of times, conditions and symptoms in your own notes. Include the exact player error if one appears. You do not need to publish your home network password, full address or streaming credentials to describe a network-quality comparison.
Ask which further test the relevant provider recommends. Meaningful diagnostics should narrow the investigation. They should not become an endless search for a perfect score when the actual viewing experience is already working for the household.

Frequently asked questions
Is download speed the same as latency?+
No. Throughput and delay describe different characteristics of a connection.
Does one poor test prove who caused buffering?+
No. Compare the conditions and actual playback, then investigate the relevant part of the path.
