Separate the channel list from the guide
An IPTV playlist M3U provides media references and may include channel metadata. A programme guide supplies schedule information. A player can load one successfully while the other is absent or incorrectly matched. Diagnose the two operations separately.
Use guide data you are authorised to access and follow the source’s documented pairing instructions. Do not assume a schedule URL is also a playable stream. Our EPG troubleshooting guide covers general guide failures; this article focuses on matching entries between the two sources.
Compare identifiers before display names
Where your player and source support guide identifiers, compare the identifier on the playlist entry with the corresponding guide channel. The displayed names may look similar while the underlying identifiers differ. Renaming a visible favourite may not update the mapping.
Work with one affected channel first and preserve an original copy of any file you control. Check case and punctuation according to the app’s instructions. Do not apply a global replacement across every name and URL to fix a single mapping.

Keep regional versions distinct
A regional schedule can differ even when two entries share a broadcaster name. Check that the selected guide belongs to the actual regional variant. Otherwise a plausible schedule may be attached to the wrong media entry.
Resolution labels can also create confusion when a player tries name-based matching. Establish whether HD and another entry share a schedule in your actual source rather than assuming they do. Keep meaningful variants visible during your test.
Check time after matching
Once the correct programme names are attached, compare the displayed times with the source’s schedule for the same date. In the UK, seasonal clock changes can make time-zone mistakes more noticeable. Check the device time zone and the guide settings before adding an arbitrary offset.
A missing channel mapping and an incorrect time display are different problems. Shifting the whole guide cannot fix an unmatched identifier. Change one setting at a time and note whether it affects every channel or only one entry.
Test the next refresh
Refresh the playlist and guide using the supported controls, then check that the mapping remains. If a source changes identifiers, a saved manual association may become stale. Record the example and refresh time for support.
Keep guide URLs private if they contain account tokens. Share only a sanitised channel identifier and the observed programme mismatch when needed. Correct schedule information improves navigation; it does not change content rights, account access or stream quality.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the channel play but its guide stay blank?+
Playback and schedule mapping are separate. Check guide availability and the entry’s identifier.
Should I change the time offset to fix a wrong channel?+
No. First confirm the schedule is matched to the correct channel and regional variant.
