The service, the player and the device

A service supplies access to authorised content under its terms. A player is the software interface used to open supported sources. A device is the television, box, phone or computer running that software. Buying one part does not automatically include the other two.

An app activation, content subscription and hardware receipt can therefore refer to different purchases. When asking for support, name the part involved rather than using IPTV to mean the whole chain. This makes the next question much clearer.

Playlists, account logins and programme guides

A playlist points to media resources; an account-based login may instead use a server address with credentials. Neither input format proves that the referenced content is authorised. Treat embedded account details and access tokens as private.

An electronic programme guide, or EPG, supplies schedule information. It is not the video itself and does not automatically provide catch-up access or recording permission. For detailed format questions, use our dedicated playlist, provider-login and EPG guides.

Connections and network measurements

A permitted installed device is not necessarily a simultaneous stream. Ask how the service counts active viewing and whether household or regional restrictions apply. Connecting several screens to one router does not itself remove an account limit.

Throughput, latency, jitter and packet loss describe different network characteristics. A headline download number is useful context, not a complete explanation of every playback problem. Record the device, route and time when comparing results.

Picture and accessibility terms

Resolution concerns the image dimensions supplied through the playback path; a capable screen does not make every programme native 4K. Audio formats, HDR and motion behaviour are additional characteristics with their own compatibility requirements.

Captions, subtitles and audio description provide different kinds of information, with terminology varying by region. Check the actual programme tracks and player controls rather than assuming one accessibility setting applies to every app. Use this glossary as a starting point, then confirm any feature that matters before ordering.
